WASHINGTON, DC - For the fourth consecutive year and sixth time in the past seven seasons, the George Washington women's lacrosse team received Academic Squad status from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). 2010 graduate Kelsey Honeyford also earned IWLCA Academic Honor Roll distinction for the second straight year.

GW joined 50 other Division I schools on the Academic Squad, while Honeyford was among 151 Division I student-athletes who earned Honor Roll recognition for the 2009-10 academic year. Teams must have a combined grade-point average of 3.0 or greater to be eligible for academic team honors, while individuals must possess a 3.5 GPA or higher or were in the top 10 percent of their squad and have reached junior academic standing.

The Colonials' top one-on-one defender and 2010 team MVP, Honeyford earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by consistently holding some of the Atlantic 10's top scorers in check. She finished the 2010 season tied for second on the team in caused turnovers (11) and fourth in ground balls (19). She started the final 51 games of her career, finishing 11th all-time at GW in ground balls (83) and 12th in caused turnovers (39).

Just as consistent in the classroom, Honeyford was named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll five semesters and received her bachelor's degree in sport, event and hospitality management from the University in May 2010.

GW won three of its last four games to finish 5-11 overall and tie for fifth in the A-10 at 3-4 in 2010. The Colonials are slated to return 20 players and seven starters for the 2011 season.
