GW Lacrosse to Collect Thanksgiving Dinner Donations
Colonials Squad Encourages GW Athletics to Donate Items for Georgetown Ministry Center
Nov. 12, 2013
For the second straight year the George Washington lacrosse program has organized an athletics department-wide community service project to bring Thanksgiving dinner to those who may not have the means to enjoy the holiday on their own. The Colonials program will hold a Thanksgiving gift basket drive from Nov. 25-26 in the Colonials Club of the Charles E. Smith Center and are encouraging 100 percent participation across the department.
Individuals and teams are encouraged to collect non-perishable food items in laundry baskets, which will then be donated to the Georgetown Ministry Center. Examples of traditional Thanksgiving food items to donate are as follows: boxes of stuffing mix, instant potatoes, cans of green beans, corn, cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes, jars of gravy or gravy mix, biscuit or bread mix, canned pie filling and pie crust, vegetable oil and salt and pepper.
Baskets will be collected in the Colonials Club on Monday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and again on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Illustrating the Athletics Department's desire to assist and serve the Washington, D.C., community, last year's collection was a success as it yielded 30 baskets from the 23 varsity programs on campus.
