The second-place finish marked a four-spot improvement from the 2011 Championship. For his efforts, Carcich was the recipient of the Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Coach of the Year award, marking the first time a GW coach has taken home the honor since Steve Peterson in 2001. Freshman Amanda Young, the lone rookie member of the Colonials' Varsity 8, was named the Female Rookie of the Year at the inaugural Georgey Awards. Also in his third season, Carcich led the Colonials to victories in the GW Invitational, Class of 1998 Cup (over Georgetown) and George's Trophy (over Georgetown, George Mason). The wins marked the first time GW has hoisted the Wilkens Bowl at the GW Invite since 2005, the first time they have won the 1998 Cup since the 2007 season and the first time claiming George's Trophy, in its second year of existence. The Colonials also won five races in two days, and advanced three boats to the Grand Finals, at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. In his second season at the helm the Colonials 2nd Varsity 8 captured the silver medal at the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic/New England (MANE) Regional Rowing Championships. GW also finished in second place in the inaugural George's Trophy against local rivals Georgetown and George Mason. In his first season Carcich led the Colonials 2nd Varsity 8 to the bronze medal at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Under his direction, all four of GW's entries qualified for the Grand Finals at the Championship Regatta. After taking over the program the Colonials moved up the Eastern Sprint ladder from 18th to 15th at in his first season. Additionally, the Colonials JV8 advanced to the petite final and finished in 11th-place at the highly comeptitive Eastern Sprint Championships.
