Robert McCracken is in his fourth year as head coach for women's rowing at The George Washington University. During his first season, McCracken led the Colonials varsity eight to the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship and was named Coach of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches.
McCracken is responsible for all aspects of the Colonials women's rowing program. His goal is to help student-athletes realize their full potential both in the classroom and on the water. His 2005-06 squad earned one CRCA Pocock All-America Second Team award, three 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Rowing Academic All-Conference awards and three CRCA National Scholar Athlete awards.
McCracken began rowing in 1992 as a freshman at Duke University. As a three-year member of Duke's varsity lightweight eight, he was an Atlantic Coast Conference champion in 1994 and a silver medalist in 1996. He also has competed for the Edinburgh University Boat Club in Edinburgh, Scotland where he won gold at the Scottish Universities Regatta.
Prior to arriving at George Washington, McCracken spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Indiana University. While at Indiana, he helped lead the novice team to fourth-place finishes at the 2000 and 2003 Big Ten Championships and grand final appearances at the 2000, 2002 and 2003 South Central Region Sprints.
A Wilmington, OH native, McCracken earned his Bachelor's degree in history and environmental policy from Duke University in 1996. He received his Master of Public Affairs in Land Use Policy from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 2000. He is a U.S. Rowing Level III Certified Coach.
