WEST WINDSOR, NJ- The George Washington women's rowing team won the silver medal in the Second Varsity 8 at the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic/New England (MANE) Regional Rowing Championships on Sunday on Mercer Lake.

"The ECAC Metro Cup offered a great opportunity to escape the flooded Potomac River and get onto a six-lane buoyed course" said head coach Eric Carcich. "The field was smaller then in past years, and it proved to be an overall great regatta for us to compete in".

In the Second Varsity 8, the Colonials finished in second place in 7:13.52, three seconds behind first-place Navy (7:10.52). Navy won the gold medal in three of the four grand finals to win the Overall Point Title.

In a tightly contested Varsity 8 final, the Colonials finished in fifth place in 7:13.06, 11 seconds behind winner Navy. Delaware (7:06.82) took second with Colgate (7:08.22) following in third place for the bronze medal.

"I was very excited for our A4 to flip the result on some A-10 competition from two weeks ago" said Carcich. "The JV and Varsity raced very hard, and it was nice to see the JV walk away with some hardware. I felt it was a step in the right direction for our program".

The Colonials will return to the water on Sunday when they meet with district-rival Georgetown for a dual race.
