WASHINGTON -: The George Washington women's rowing team will return to the Philadelphia area for the second straight weekend to compete in the 32nd Annual Murphy Cup Regatta on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
The Colonials will send four boats to compete in Saturday's event, which features morning heats and afternoon finals sessions.
"I'm excited to bring the team back to the 32nd Murphy Cup Regatta on the Cooper River," said Head Coach Eric Carcich. "It's a great event featuring many different conferences with the Atlantic 10, ACC, Patriot League and AAC all represented. It always produces some good racing against crews that we don't often see."
GW will enter a Varsity 8, JV 8 and two Varsity 4 boats in the morning heats. The top two boats in the V8 and JV8 heats will advance to the afternoon Grand Final while the remaining boats in the Varsity 8 will go to the Petite final. In the V4 races, the first-place boat from each heat will race in the Grand Final.
"The most important thing about this weekend is having the opportunity to practice the Atlantic 10 Championship format which is a heat in the morning followed by finals in the afternoon," said Coach Carcich. "It's a great opportunity to hit it in the morning and see what is in the tanks for the afternoon final. It's also another chance to see where we are and see how we are improving from week to week. With such a shortened season it is important that we are hitting our benchmarks as we progress through each race."
