Van Cleave Named to A-10 All-Conference First Team

WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington senior rower Ellen VanCleave (Brookfield, WI) was named to the 2010 Atlantic 10 Conference All-Conference First Team for Women's Rowing Saturday at the 2010 A-10 Women's Rowing Championship. The 12-member team was selected by the participating coaches.

Van Cleave rows in the 7 seat in GW's Varsity 8 shell. GW's Varsity 8 placed third in the morning's preliminary heat to advance to the Grand Championship where it finished sixth for 12 points at the A-10 Women's Rowing Championship Saturday on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ.

The Colonials' next race will take place on Saturday, May 1, in the ECAC Metro Cup, also on the Cooper River.

In addition to Van Cleave, others earning First-Team All-Conference honors Saturday were Dayton's Lydia Caldwell, Catherine Helmer from Fordham, Colleen Greway and Christina DiSanto of Saint Joseph's, Temple's Mary Webster and Bailey Chick, Samantha Smith and Megan Donovan of Massachusetts and Rhode Island's Jenna Hetzell, Becky Cotreau and Raejean Pearse-Theroux. The All-Conference Second Team consists of Mary Deet from Duquesne, Lauren O'Donnell of La Salle, Fordham's Alyssa Sunofsky, Tina Regan from Saint Joseph's, Temple's Nicole Wagner, Amanda Doolin and Ali DiMatteo from Massachusetts and Rhode Island's Jenessa Redfern. Rhode Island's Shelagh Donohoe earned her third Coach of the Year honor in leading her team to the Championship title.
