May 30, 2012
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Senior women’s rower MacKenzie Hovermale was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The selection marks the first A-10 honor of Hovermale’s career.
Hovermale recently concluded her fourth and final season as a member of the George Washington women’s rowing team. She rowed in the Varsity 4 boat since arriving on campus as a freshman and this season helped the Colonials to victories in the George’s Trophy, Class of 1998 Cup and Wilkins Bowl. She also played a part in helping the team to a second-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships, their highest finish at the event since 2003.
The Springfield, Ill., native graduated on May 14 with a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs while boasting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.97. Hovermale was awarded the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award at the annual Senior Honors Luncheon on May 1 and is also a six-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
She was also one of four GW student-athletes recognized as University Outstanding Academic Achievers at the Academic Honors Dinner, which identified students who were among the top two percent by GPA in their classes.
