WASHINGTON -- The George Washington women's soccer squad fell to No. 5 Georgetown, 4-0, in its season opener at Shaw Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Colonials tallied five shots on the day but could not find the back of the net as four second half goals by the Hoyas made the difference in the crosstown rivalry matchup.

The teams stayed even for much of the first half, with senior forward Brittany Cooper nearly taking an early lead for the Colonials in the eighth minute. The Hoyas continued to apply the offensive pressure, but the Buff and Blue defense held their post to keep it 0-0 at the end of the first half.

Georgetown came out hot in the second, scoring an early goal at the 48:42 mark and again 16 minutes later. The Hoyas added two more goals in the last two minutes of play to cement their 4-0 victory.

The Colonials are back in action for their home opener on Thursday, August 24th when they host Liberty at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
