Final Stats

ANNAPOLIS, MD- Navy (1-0) freshman Iris Boivin's goal in the 73rd minute broke a scoreless tie and sent the Mids past George Washington University (0-1) 1-0 Friday night in the season opener for both teams at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

The Colonials were held in check offensively all game as they were outshot 16-3 in the contest.

The closest GW came to scoring was late in the first-half when freshman Kerry Philbin (Herndon, VA / Bishop Denis O'Connell) broke free at the top of the box and launched a shot on goal. But Navy goalie Haley Crain recorded her only save of the game and went on to post the shutout.

Colonials' keeper Anna Handzlik (Palos, Verdes, CA / Palos Verdes Peninsula (UC Boulder) notched two saves in the game.

GW returns home Sunday to face UMBC at 1:00 pm at the Mount Vernon Field located at 2100 Foxhall Rd., northwest Washington.
