GW Women's Soccer Defeats UMBC in an Exhibition Match

Aug. 26, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington women's soccer downed MD-Baltimore County, 1-0, in an exhibition match late Sunday afternoon. It was the second and final game of the preseason for both schools.

The match was scoreless after the first half of play, with the Colonials out-shooting the Retrievers, 6-1.

GW wasted little time in snapping the tie in the second period, as junior Meg Pyle (Franklin Park, NJ/Mount St. Mary Academy), last season's team-leader in goals, found the back of the net in the 50th minute. Sophomore Brittany Eger (Sykesville, MD/Century) provided the perfect crossing pass for the assist.

George Washington finishes the 2007 exhibition season 1-1, after falling at William & Mary on Thursday night.

The Colonials open the regular this season this weekend at the Vermont TD Banknorth Classic, in Burlington, VT. GW squares off against New Hampshire Friday, at 1:00 p.m., and then plays host-school Vermont at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday.

After starting the season with their best non-conference mark in school history at 7-3-0, the Colonials finished 2006 with a 9-10-0 overall record. Their nine wins were the most since the 2003 campaign.
