GW Women's Soccer Drops Road Match to Saint Mary's
Aug. 26, 2011 MORAGA, Calif. – Playing in its first game on the West Coast since 2005, the George Washington women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to Saint Mary’s Friday evening in non-conference action. The Colonials drop to 0-2 on the season while the Gaels improve to 1-0-1, in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. GW and Saint Mary’s exchanged shots throughout the first half, but the Gaels finally connected on goal less than three minutes before halftime. A shot on goal was denied by Colonials senior goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe, but Jordan Marada collected the deflection from close range and sent the ball to the back of the net to notch Saint Mary’s first goal. Twenty minutes into the second half the home team took a 2-0 lead off a header from inside the box. The Gaels’ Daelyn Paul sent a cross pass from the right side of the field and Sara Ives was there to send the ball to the lower left corner. Saint Mary’s sealed the deal 15 minutes later with the third and final goal of action. Brooke Herrick sent a bouncing pass from Samantha Myers out of Rowe’s reach to the upper right corner. Rowe tallied 10 stops on the night, making five saves in each half. Junior Adriana Moya registered a team-high two shots on goal. GW heads to the Bay Area Sunday Aug. 28 to take on San Francisco for the first time since 1989. The game between the Colonials and the Dons (0-1) is set for 4 p.m. ET, (1 p.m. PT) at Negoesco Stadium. Fans can watch live stats here.
