NORFOLK, VA - George Washington women's soccer fell, 2-0, at Old Dominion in a Friday night non-conference match. The Lady Monarchs increase their all-time record against the Colonials to 3-0. GW and ODU both even their records at a loss and a win each on the season.

The Lady Monarchs struck first in the 19th minute on a header by Ashlee Coutu off a cross that was touched by two in front of the net.

At half, lightning was spotted in the area, extending the halftime to almost a half hour to wait out the weather.

"The extra time allowed us to settle down and talk more about the second half," head coach Tanya Vogel said. "We came out hard at the start but they came back to score their second goal."

ODU scored the second goal of the game in the 62nd minute on a Jocelyn Weidner kick from 20 yards away to the bottom left corner of the goal. Her first goal of the season was assisted by Coutu and Victoria Johnson.

"It was very much an evenly matched game," said Vogel. "Our five defenders played very well for us tonight."

GW earned four corner kicks while ODU out shot GW, 14-7. Colonial sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe allowed both goals with five saves on seven shots on goal, while Lady Monarch netminder Bre Alvarado collected two saves on two shots.

The Colonials are back in action Sunday, Aug. 30, at Mount St. Mary's. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
