BURLINGTON, VT - Junior Erica Wright (Cabin John, MD/Walt Whitman/Univ. of Pittsburgh) scored a goal in the 97th minute to give George Washington women's soccer a 2-1 overtime victory against Vermont in the championship of the 2007 TD Banknorth Classic. It was the second year in a row that GW has defeated Vermont 2-1 in overtime.

Vermont, coached by George Washington graduate Kerry Dziczkaniec ('93), took the initial lead in the 55th minute, when Gabby Bonfigli scored off of a chip-pass from Lexis Kaknes.

The Catamounts were able to hang on to the slim 1-0 lead for 15 minutes, until GW junior midfielder Keara Mehlert (Chevy Chase, MD/Stone Ridge School) finished off a through ball that was sent in by freshman midfielder Kristen Slack (Northville, MI/Northville) in the 70th minute.

Slack also assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime and she now leads the team with four points through the first two games this season.

Red shirt-junior Goalkeeper Amie Kern (Saylorsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) finished the match with six saves and was selected as the Defensive MVP of the tournament. Kern was also named to the All-Tournament Team, along with senior midfielder Nicole Trickett (Eugene, OR/South Eugene) and senior defender Kierra Colker (Los Angeles, CA/Beverly Hills).

In the day's other contest, New Hampshire cruised past Central Arkansas, 3-0.

George Washington (2-0-0) makes their 2007 home debut Wednesday, September 5, when they play host to Marshall at 4:00 p.m.
