WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman forward Claire Haft scored off a Molly Bruh corner kick in the 34th minute for the Colonials' 2010 home opener 1-0 win over area rival UMBC. GW improves to 1-2-0 on the season, while UMBC falls to 1-3-1 in non-conference play.

The Colonials were physical against the Retrievers all game, as senior goalkeeper Bridget Mahon directed her defense that only allowed two shots.

"I am really happy with how Bridget did today in goal. She did a great job organizing the backs," said head coach Tanya Vogel. "Jillian Morgan, Sierra Smidinger and Bruh, all right down the middle of the field, did a great job today."

GW mixed up the line-up this game, still finding the right mix of eleven on the field to get the victory.

"They are a very talented team," said Vogel. "We have more talent this year than we have had in many years. Pulling that talent together and staying committed to do this as a team is really important [for us this season]."

The Colonials continue the home stand on Sunday, Sept. 5, when they take on Mount St. Mary's at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Field.
