GW Downs Marshall for Their Third Straight Win

Sept. 5, 2007

Box Score

WASHINGTON, DC - Junior forward Meg Pyle (Franklin Park, NJ/Mount Saint Mary Academy) took a penalty kick in the 87th minute and drilled it into the lower-right corner of the net to propel George Washington to the 1-0 win over Marshall in the Colonials' 2007 home opener Wednesday afternoon at Mount Vernon Field.

The win improved GW to 3-0-0 on the year, while Marshall dropped to 1-1-0. It was the second win for the Colonials all-time over the Herd, after defeating Marshall in their tournament last season.

After controlling the entire match, GW finally managed to break the scoreless tie late in the game. As she gathered a pass inside the box, junior midfielder Keara Mehlert (Chevy Chase, MD/Stone Ridge School) was fouled hard, leading to the penalty kick. Pyle sent a low strike into the right-hand corner of the net as the Marshall keeper guessed wrong and dove left.

George Washington heads back to the road this weekend as they travel to Fairfax, VA, to participate in the George Mason Tournament. GW faces Georgetown Friday at 5:00 p.m. and then tournament-host George Mason at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
