Women's Soccer End Double Overtime Game Tied with Howard, 0-0
Sept. 6, 2009
WASHINGTON, DC - With 15 seconds left in regulation, freshman Kayley Sullivan took a shot that rolled just wide past the lower left corner, forcing the scoreless game into overtime. The George Washington University women's soccer team controlled possession of the ball almost the whole game Sunday over Howard, but just could not convert on any of the 16 shots on goal. GW falls to 2-1-1 on the season, while Howard goes to 0-4-1. The Colonials had many chances to score, helped by defenders Michelle Aueron, Samie Cloutier, Emily Gower, Kristen Slack and Molly Bruh, as they kept the Bison forwards from getting much past midfield. The teams exchanged yellow cards during regulation, as the Referees allowed the teams to play a very physical match. Colonial forwards had a season high 26 shots in 120 minutes, led by Sullivan with seven shots, with five on goal. Goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe saw only three shots on goal, collecting all three as saves.
GW next takes on DC neighbor Georgetown on Wed., Sept. 9, at Mount Vernon Field. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
