Colonials Fall to Loyola, 1-0, in Overtime

BALTIMORE, MD - The George Washington women's soccer team fell to Loyola (MD) 1-0, in their second overtime match in as many games on Friday night. Loyola improves to 2-4-0 while the Colonials fall to 2-3-0.
The Greyhounds got the game-winner in the 97th minute when Alex Reed scored her first goal of the season. She connected with a cross from Katelyn McFadden, then turned past a GW defender and shot into the lower right corner.
The Colonials found some firepower after half time as junior Sierra Smidinger had six shots with three on goal in the last 53 minutes of the game. Ashley Starks and Claire Haft both registered a shot on goal during the second half.
In the first half, Loyola held the GW to only two shots, both taken by Cara Cadigan.
Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe collected four saves on five shots on goal by the Greyhounds. Rowe's record falls to 0-3-0 on the season.
The Colonials return home Tuesday, September 14, to take on rival American University at 4:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon Field, 2100 Foxhall Road in northwest Washington.
