Ina Kain's OT Goal Pushes Women's Soccer Past San Diego State 1-0
Sept. 16, 2005 SAN DIEGO, CA - With the game scoreless in the first minute of overtime, senior Ina Kain (Irvine, CA/Woodbridge) scored a goal (1) via a header off a corner kick to lift George Washington University (3-3) over San Diego State University (5-3) 1-0 in women's soccer Friday afternoon at the SDSU Sports Deck. Just 50 seconds into the extra period, freshman Keara Mehlert (Silver Spring, MD/Stone Ridge School) set up the winning shot with a well placed corner kick to Kain. The assist was Mehlert's first as a Colonial. Goalkeeper Kelly Paolucci (Lanham, MD/Good Counsel) continued her brilliant play in net for the Colonials as the senior made seven saves on route to her first shutout of the year and GW's second straight overall. Kain's score was just the second shot-on-goal in the match for the Colonials. The Aztec's outshot GW 7-2 on goal and 13-4 overall. SDSU freshman Jen Mello recorded four shots, two on goal, while sophomore Jessica Girdner attempted two shots, both on goal. GW travels north for the second half of its two-game West Coast swing as the Colonials meet UC Santa Barbara Sunday at 3:00 PM EST. -GW-
