Final Stats

WASHINGTON, DC - American University (3-6) scored two goals in the first 29 minutes of the game and held on to defeat George Washington University women's soccer (3-5) 3-1 Wednesday afternoon at Reeves Field.

Trailing 2-0 late in the first half, freshman Kerry Philbin (Oak Hill, VA/Bishop Denis O'Connell) scored her team leading third goal on a header to cut the Eagles' lead to 2-1.

Freshman Keara Mehlert (Silver Spring, MD/Stone Ridge School) lined up for a corner kick and found Philbin for her second assist of the season.

The Colonials took 11 corner kicks, overall, but could only convert on the one.

AU freshman Tatiana Bertolo added an insurance score (1) for the Eagles in the 60th minute to give AU the 3-1 victory.

The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 advantage at the 5:58 mark on a goal from junior Jana Lee (2).

Senior Marcela Ricupero made it 2-0 for AU when she scored at the 28:28 mark.

Junior Christina Gonzalez assisted on goals one and three for AU.

Goalie Kelsey Wiggins made nine saves for the Eagles while GW's keeper Kelly Paolucci (Lanham, MD/Good Counsel) made six.

The Colonials stand idle for the next eight days before beginning conference play at La Salle on Friday, Sept. 30.
