Shari Taylor's Two Goals Gives Women's Soccer 2-1 Win at La Salle
Sept. 30, 2005
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Junior Shari Taylor's (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop McNamara) second goal of the game in the 87th minute broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the George Washington University women's soccer team (4-5-0, 1-0-0 A-10) to a 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over La Salle University (3-7-1, 0-1-0 A-10) Friday afternoon at McCarty Stadium. Taylor's game-winner was setup when she took a pass from senior Lise Backman (Beaconsfield, Quebec/John Abbott College) on a through ball from midfield and beat two defenders to launch a shot that found the lower left net. The Colonials grabbed a 1-0 lead 16 minutes into the contest when Taylor took control of the ball at midfield and dribbled up the right side and scored unassisted. The multi goal game is Taylor's first for her collegiate career. The Explores tied the game 1-1 when senior Alexis Petrucci placed a ball in the upper left corner of the net with the assist from sophomore Jenna Guagenti. GW goalkeeper Kelly Paolucci (Lanham, MD/Good Counsel) picked up five saves while La Salle's goalie Lauren Malizia made three stops. The Colonials return to the playing field Friday, Oct. 7, when they host Dayton at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. Game time is 3:00 PM. -GW-
