Final Stats

WASHINGTON – The George Washington women’s soccer squad picked up its eighth win in nine games and its fourth consecutive home victory when it dropped St. Bonaventure, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.

The score stayed even at zero for much of the first half, with GW leading 5-3 in shots with eight minutes left on the clock. The Bonnies gained some much needed momentum in the final minutes of the first, but it was the Colonials that came out on top when freshman midfielder Kelly Amador scored her first collegiate goal off of a pass from sophomore defender Deena DeSilva with 30 seconds left to play before intermission.

With a 1-0 lead going into the second half, GW continued to stay on the attack and found the back of the net once again when freshman midfielder Alexis Williams darted through the Bonnies backline to meet a pass from sophomore forward Sheila Albertson and shot right above the goalkeepers reach. The GW defense stayed solid for the remainder of the game to give the Colonials their fourth consecutive home victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • 44th Minute – Kelly Amador put the Colonials up by one in the last minute of play in the first half with the first goal of her collegiate career. After a St. Bonaventure foul, Amador took a pass from DeSilva and slid while kicking the ball through the Bonnies defense into the back of the net. (GW 1, SBU 0)

  • 53rd Minute – Just eight minutes into the second half, Williams tallied her fourth goal of the season when Albertson found Williams in an opening and Williams shot the ball between the pipes. (GW 2, SBU 0)
