Moya, Starks Score in 2-1 Victory Over Temple

WASHINGTON, DC -- Junior Ashley Starks put in the game-winning goal for the Colonials Sunday afternoon to defeat the Temple Owls, 2-1, at Mount Vernon Field.
The first half saw many shots on goal from both teams, GW had nine to Temple's four, but both goalkeepers them from going in.
The Owls got on the board first in the second half. In the 50th minute, TU received a corner kick, while GW cleared the initial pass, TU's Allicia Yurkovic put in the rebound off a misstep by the Colonials.
GW's Adriana Moya scored the equalizer off a Misa Eiritz corner for her first colligate goal. Kristen Slack touched it first and flipped it back to Moya, who put it past the TU goalkeeper, Kara Williams.
Temple had the first chance to take the lead, earning four consecutive corners, but was unable to connect.
Just about two minutes from Moya's goal, Starks was leading a break away down the field. TU' Williams came out of the box to contest her shot and missed, which led to the open net for Starks' goal.
The Colonials return to Mount Vernon Field Saturday, Oct. 10, to take on Richmond. Kick off is set for 2:00 p.m.
