WASHINGTON – The George Washington women’s soccer squad battled Saint Joseph’s to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Thursday afternoon at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.

GW (9-4-2, 4-2-1 A10) had four scoring opportunities in the overtime periods but could not find the back of the net as the Colonials went the distance with Saint Joseph’s (7-5-3,2-3-2 A10 ) in a scoreless tie.

Both teams came out even in the first, tallying two shots on net in the opening 20 minutes of play. The Hawks then began to apply the offensive pressure, recording six shots, but the GW back line held strong while redshirt senior Miranda Horn made four saves in the cage to close the half.

The Hawks continued their momentum on the attack right into the second half with a shot on net just 28 seconds in, but Horn once again came in clutch with a big save to keep the score deadlocked at zero. The Colonials’ front line began to get some much-needed shots on net, but could not get the ball past the Hawks’ goalkeeper, pushing the game to overtime.

The Buff and Blue had their best look five minutes into the second overtime period when Sofia Pavon took a header off of a corner kick from Horn, but the ball went just high of the net.

  • Miranda Horn made seven saves in between the pipes and now has totaled 291 career saves as a Colonial.

  • The draw marked GW’s second of the season and their first in conference play.

  • Junior midfielder Sofia Pavon led the Colonials with four shots on net, while senior forward Brittany Cooper and freshman midfielder Alexis Williams tallied two apiece.

UP NEXT The Colonials will travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on the defending A-10 tournament champion Flyers on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
