Women's Soccer Blanked by George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. (Oct. 16, 2001) - Senior Erika Webster scored two goals and senior forward Jayme Beamer added two assists to lead George Mason to a 4-0 shutout victory over GW this afternoon, Oct. 16, at George Mason Stadium. The Colonials fell to 5-7 on the season while the Patriots improved to 5-6-1.

Beamer was instrumental in helping George Mason record its first two goals. She fed senior midfielder Megan Hawkins from the center of the field, and Hawkins blasted a high shot from 20 yards out, which veered away from GW keeper Christine O'Malley (Davis, CA/Davis Senior) and into the net at the 5:28 mark. Less than two minutes later, Beamer connected with Webster in front of the goal for George Mason's second goal.

Later in the first period, a GW foul allowed the Patriots a free kick opportunity. Junior Katy McGee set up freshman Allison Cowan on a give-and-go play to extend the Patriots' margin to 3-0 in the 29th minute.

Mason went ahead 4-0 at the 42:03 mark after junior midfielder Kerri Beck's crossing pass found Webster in front of the goal and Webster put it away for her second goal of the game.

The Colonials pressured the George Mason net in the second half, but were unable to beat the Patriot keepers. Senior Tiffany Williams (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) led the Colonials with two shots.

GW returns to Atlantic 10 play with a pair of key matchups this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 19, the Colonials travel to Philadelphia to face the La Salle Explorers at 3:00 p.m. The Colonials then continue to head north to New York to play the Fordham Rams on Sunday, Oct. 21, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
