Final Stats

WASHINGTON, DC - In her last home game of her four-year GW career, senior Kelly Lawten (New Canaan, CT / New Canaan) scored her first goal of the season, which turned out to be the game winner, as George Washington (5-5-5, 3-1-3 A-10) defeated St. Bonaventure, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Mount Vernon.

It took the Colonials 16:22 to take a 1-0 lead when junior Ina Kain's (Irvine, CA / Woodbridge) corner kick was knocked into the Bonnies' (8-8-0, 1-6-0 A-10) goal by Lawten. The goal was the earliest GW has scored in a game all season.

The Colonials added their second goal with less than one-minute remaining in the first half. Junior Lise Backman (Beaconsfield, Quebec / John Abbot College) tapped in a pass from sophomore Christine Jodrie (Frederick, MD / Thomas Johnson) right in front of the St. Bonaventure net to take a 2-0 advantage.

GW goalie Kelly Paolucci (Lanham, MD / Good Counsel) posted the shutout in just her second start of the year. She recorded nine saves in the game.

Bonnie's freshman Pam Stottele attempted three shots on goal but was stonewalled each time by Paolucci.

St. Bonaventure's goalie Lisa Eberhart stopped four shots in the contest.

The Colonials offense was very balanced as six different players attempted a shot on goal.

With the game being the final 2004 home match for GW, the Colonials recognized their three graduating seniors during a pre-game ceremony.

Lawten, Lindsay Bruno (Kensington, CT / The Loomis Chaffee School) and Tara Quinn (Washington, DC / Holy Child) were honored for their contributions to the GW women's soccer program.

The Colonials travel to Cincinnati, OH, Friday to face Atlantic 10 foe Xavier. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
