ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The George Washington women’s soccer team fell to Atlantic 10 foe St. Bonaventure, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.
It was the first road loss of the season for the Colonials (5-4-3, 2-2-0 A-10) as they could not overcome a first-half goal by the Bonnies (4-8-1, 1-3-0 A-10). GW outshot St. Bonaventure, 7-2, in the second half, but was limited to just one attempt in the first half.
Each team took eight shots in the contest, but SBU's Taylor Broderick scored the lone goal in the 27th minute off of a pass from Brittany Charles.
GW freshman Kate Elson nearly scored the equalizer in the 51st minute when her shot bounced off the post and junior Nicole Belfonti collected the rebound, but her shot went wide right. GW forced SBU goalie Megan Junker into two saves.
Senior goalkeeper Nicole Ulrick made four saves the Colonials, all of which were in the first half.
GW continues its conference road swing at Duquesne on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff in Pittsburgh, Pa., is slated for 1 p.m.
