March 11, 2004
WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's soccer team has signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2004 season. Head Coach Tanya Vogel is very excited with the additions to next year's roster. With the loss of some key players from last season, the new signees will bolster an already prolific forward line as well as add depth to the back and midfield.
Forward Kiki Colker (Beverly Hills, CA/Beverly Hills) is a true student of the game and plays for the Slammers U-17 Premier Club. She will add an element to GW's game that the team has not enjoyed for some time. Standing six feet tall, Colker is sure to stir things up playing both forward and defensive midfield in the A-10. Vogel states, "Kiki is powerful with both feet and is an imposing threat in the air." As a captain of her high school team and starter since her freshman year, Colker led the team in goals and assists as a sophomore. She is a proven defender as well, marking several top Californian attackers out of the match. In 2003 her club team was crowned Champions of the U-19 Super Group at the prestigious Surf Cup Tournament. In 2001 Colker was a member of the Gold Medal winning U.S. National Maccabi Team. Off the field she also excels in the classroom. She maintains a 3.9 GPA and is a member of the Honor Roll.
Defender Julie Harrison (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) plays for the Beach F.C. Riptide club team. "Julie is a strong and talented defender who will make an immediate impact in our program," said Vogel. A tremendous leader with a good game sense and ability to direct the field, her presence will help to solidify an already disciplined defense. At Kempsville high school she earned Defensive MVP, First Team All-Beach District, Co-Player of the Year All Beach District and First Team All-State and Eastern Region. Julie is also a member of the National Honor Society and will study Exercise Science at GW.

Amie Kern (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) is a goalkeeper for the Lehigh Valley club team. Kern comes to GW with an attitude and confidence that truly defines a GW student-athlete. "For a squad that already has two of the top goalkeepers in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Amie is a determined goalkeeper who possesses the necessary skills to push the existing keepers and challenge for a starting position," according to Goalkeeper Coach Colin Lennon. She ranks in the top 16% in her High School class and currently ranks second in her school's history for shutouts with 35. A record she will attempt to break this spring in her senior season. In 2003 she was a First Team All-Conference selection and led her team to an Elite 8 finish in the PIAA State Playoffs, a team record.
