WASHINGTON, DC- Jillian Morgan was named the women's soccer team's Most Valuable Player at George Washington University's annual Senior Honors Luncheon on the GW campus Thursday. The squad also received the Women's Team Academic Excellence Award.

A senior from Douglassville, PA, Jillian moved to the back line to lead a young Colonials defense this season, starting all 18 matches and helping GW post four shutouts and a 1.10 goals-against average. Her tough defensive play throughout the season earned her Second Team All-Conference honors from the Atlantic 10. In her four seasons, Jillian started all 74 games played and finished with three goals and two assists for eight career points.

The women's soccer team received of the 2011 Women's Team Academic Excellence Award, with a combined grade-point average of 3.447. 11th-year head coach Tanya Vogel's squad wins the award for the second straight year after compiling a 3.46 team GPA for the 2010 Fall semester, with 16 student-athletes posting a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better and nine with at least a 3.5. The women's soccer team also received the College Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the second year in a row this past December.
