WASHINGTON - Preparations for the 2012-13 George Washington athletics seasons are already underway as the GW women's soccer team returned to Foggy Bottom this week to begin preseason training under first-year head coach Sarah Barnes.

"Everyone came out this week with great attitudes and a lot of positive energy. It's great to see them all working hard," said Coach Barnes, who took over the Colonials' program in December and brings a resume of 17 NCAA Tournament appearances in her last 18 seasons as both a student-athlete at Connecticut and assistant coach at UConn and Texas. "Preseason is the time to put the pieces together and see everyone's strengths. We are excited to get out and play."

The Buff and Blue return 21 letterwinners from 2011 and welcome 11 newcomers. Delaware visits the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus on Sunday, Aug. 12, for a 1 p.m. exhibition match.

"Things have been going really well and everyone is enjoying getting to know the new coaching staff," said senior co-captain Kayley Sullivan. "This is a great opportunity for us to see how everyone works and plays together. We're really looking forward to our exhibition game with Delaware."

The Colonials open regular-season play at district rival Georgetown on Friday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m.
