Sept. 5, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington women's soccer player Amie Kern (Saylorsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Kern has registered shutout victories in three of the four matches this season for the Colonials, who are off to a 3-1-0 start for the first time since 2003. In their opening contest against UMBC, Kern stopped five shots on the way to a 1-0 win. The following week, she fought through the rain, and a game that nearly lasted five hours, to tally six saves in the 2-0 loss at Villanova.
This past weekend, Kern was named to the all-tournament team at the Second Annual Thundering Herd Nike Invitational after totaling six saves in the Colonials' wins over host-school Marshall (2-0) and Morehead State (1-0). Through the first four games of the season, Kern has amassed 17 saves.
The honor is shared with Vanessa Patry, a sophomore forward from Massachusetts. Patry accumulated seven points (three goals and an assist) in just three games for the Minutewomen.
George Washington will make their home debut Wednesday against Howard. The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
