Kristen Slack Named to Soccer America Women's Team of the Week

Sept. 6, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington freshman forward Kristen Slack (Northville, MI/Northville) was named to the Soccer America Women's Team of the Week, the magazine announced on Wednesday.

Slack led the way for the Colonials last week, scoring her first collegiate goal and notching the first two assists of her young career. The forward's efforts helped GW capture the Vermont TD Banknorth Classic, held over the weekend in Burlington, VT.

In her first ever college match, Slack scored a goal in the 19th minute that proved to be the difference, as GW held on for the 1-0 victory over New Hampshire. On Sunday, in the tournament's championship match, Slack assisted on both of the Colonials' goals in their 2-1 overtime win versus host-school Vermont.

Through the first three matches of the season, Slack leads the team with four points.

Slack, the Team of the Week's lone freshman, is joined by goalkeepers Madison Gates (Michigan/Jr.) and Lindsay Thorstenson (South Carolina/Sr.); defenders Nikki Krzysik (Virginia/Jr.), Kasey Moore (Texas/Jr.) and Elise Weber (Notre Dame/Jr.); midfielder Mick Imgram (Tennessee/So.); and forwards Katie Carney (UNLV/Sr.), Michelle Collins (Missouri/So.), Kelley O'Hara (Stanford/So.) and Rachael Rapinoe (Portland/Sr.)

George Washington defeated Marshall in their 2007 home debut on Wednesday, 1-0, taking advantage of a late foul called against the Thundering Herd. The Colonials, who have started a season 3-0 for the first time in program history, are set to participate in the George Mason Tournament this weekend, in Fairfax, VA. They will face-off against Georgetown on Friday, at 5:00 p.m., and then play host-school George Mason at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
