Women’s Soccer’s Cooper and Williams Earn A-10 Weekly Honors
Cooper named Offensive Player of the Week; Williams named Rookie of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After leading the team to its fifth consecutive victory over the weekend, GW women’s soccer's Brittany Cooper has been named the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week while Alexis Williams earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors.
Cooper leads all Colonials on offense this season with 24 shots on net and a career-high four assists. The Montclair, New Jersey, native recorded her second goal of the 2017 season with her overtime game winner at James Madison. With 30 seconds left on the clock, Cooper lifted the Colonials to their fifth straight victory when she stole the ball off of a deflected pass, dribbled one-on-one past a Dukes’ defender, and shot the ball between the pipes. The goal marked her third career game winner and the third consecutive game where she’s tallied at least one point.
Williams has made an immediate impact on the GW front line this season. The rookie has made all eight starts and is tied for first on the team with Cooper with eight points. The criminal justice major tallied a game-high two assists at Delaware State on Thursday and energized the Colonials with the game-tying goal against James Madison on Sunday en route to their overtime victory.
