Women's Soccer Set for Pair of Weekend Matches
Colonials to visit Richmond on Thursday and host Saint Louis on Sunday
KICKING OFF: The George Washington women's soccer squad will continue conference action on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with a trip to Richmond, Virginia to take on the Spiders before retuning home to host St. Louis for their annual Pink Game on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials (8-3-1, 3-1 A-10) picked up their eighth win in nine games when they dropped St. Bonaventure, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon. Freshman midfielder Kelly Amador scored her first collegiate goal to give GW a 1-0 lead going into intermission and Alexis Williams scored her fourth goal of the season to cement the home victory.
HOME SWEET HOME: With Sunday's win over St. Bonaventure, the Colonials notched their fourth consecutive home victory and are just one win away from surpassing last season's four-match win streak (Aug. 21 -- Sept. 8) at GW Soccer Field.
HERE TO ASSIST: Sophomore defender Deena DeSilva leads all Colonial defenders with a career-high three assists on the season. The Rockville, Maryland, native tallied an assist at James Madison and George Mason as well as at home against St. Bonaventure.
STRIKING FIRST: The Buff and Blue have found the back of the net before their opponent in their last four matches and in eight contests this season. In those games, the Colonials have posted a 6-1-1 record.
- Brittany Cooper -- One assist shy of tying Erin Coopedge (1998-2001) and Jennifer Vogel (1993-96) for 10th place on GW's all-time career assists list.
- Miranda Horn -- One save shy of passing Christine O'Malley (2000-02) for fourth place on GW's all-time career saves list.
- Miranda Horn -- Three shutouts shy of passing Lora Mozer (1987-90) for first place on GW's all-time career shutouts list.
MILESTONES RECENTLY ACHIEVED:
- Kelly Amador scored her first career goal against St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
- Sheila Albertson tallied her first career point off of an assist to Alexis Williams in the Colonials' matchup with the Bonnies.
SCOUTING RICHMOND: The Spiders (1-9-1, 1-2-1 A-10) played to a draw in regulation for the fourth time this season, but were unable to keep host George Mason off the board in extra time, falling 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS: The Billikens (11-1-1, 3-1 A-10) stayed tied with the Colonials for second place in the A-10 when they overpowered Saint Joseph's, 3-0, on Sunday. The match marked their second straight shutout victory and their ninth of the season. Saint Louis will host Dayton on Thursday before traveling to Washington, D.C. to take on the Colonials.
LOOK AHEAD: The Buff and Blue will return to action on Thursday, October 12 at 3:30 p.m. to host Saint Joseph's at the GW Soccer Field before traveling to Dayton, Ohio to take on the defending A-10 tournament champion Flyers on Sunday, October 15 for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
