Sunday's match against Saint Joseph's will serve as GW's Kickin' it for a Cure game. As the Colonials don pink shoelaces in support of breast cancer awareness, members of the GW First Ladies dance team will collect monetary contributions throughout the contest. A donation table will also be set up behind the benches for fans to make pledges and fans are encouraged to dress in pink. Proceeds will benefit the GW Cancer Institute.
GW (4-2-3, 1-0 A-10) is currently riding a six-match unbeaten streak after defeating Rhode Island, 1-0, in its conference opener last Friday. Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week Kate Elson found the back of the net with less than 90 seconds remaining in action to break the scoreless tie and lift the Colonials to a league victory. The back line preserved the Colonials' third shutout of the season against the Rams and senior goalkeeper Nicole Ulrick was named A-10 Player of the Week after setting aside a career-high 10 shots.
Freshman Lina Proska leads all scorers on the year with three goals for six points while senior Jane Wallis and rookie MacKenzie Cowley have tallied five points each on two goals and an assist. GW has out-shot its opponents, 115-77, and the defense has allowed just 10 goals this season, which ties for second in the league. Ulrick has played all 870 minutes in goal this season and ranks fifth in the A-10 with a .783 save percentage.
Two-time defending A-10 Champion La Salle (9-2-1, 1-0 A-10) comes to GW on Friday following a 1-0 double overtime victory over Fordham on Friday. Senior Renee Washington's game-winner came in the 105th minute of play to lift the Explorers over the Rams. Junior Kelsey Haycook (8 g, 3 a) leads La Salle with 19 points on the season and Washington (6 g, 2 a) has recorded 14 points. Goalkeepers Katie Getzinger and Jessica Wiggins have split action, playing in the net six games apiece. Getzinger has produced a .781 save percentage and registered three shutouts while Wiggins has recorded four shutouts and amassed a .897 save percentage. GW leads the all-time series with La Salle at 12-6.
GW and Saint Joseph's will match up for the first time in two years on Sunday for the Hawks' lone contest of the weekend. SJU (4-5-3, 0-1-1 A-10) is coming off a 1-1 double overtime draw at Fordham on Sunday. Senior Morgan Duffy struck first to put the Hawks up, 1-0, but the Rams netted the equalizer and neither squad could break the tie. Freshman Emily Gingrich (5 g, 1 a) paces the SJU offense with 11 points and senior Mo Hawkins (3 g, 1 a) has recorded seven points. Goalkeeper Lauren Jancuska has made 52 saves and owns a 1.03 goals-against average. The Colonials lead the Hawks, 9-4-2, all-time.
