Women's Soccer's Shari Taylor and Kerry Philbin Named Second Team All-Conference

Nov. 2, 2005

PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington University women's soccer player's Shari Taylor (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop McNamara) and Kerry Philbin (Herndon, VA / Bishop Denis O'Connell) were both named Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference, determined by the Conference's head coaches.

Philbin, a freshman, was also named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.

Although primarily a defender, Taylor stepped up a number of times this season to play the forward spot and produced strong results. The junior and team captain tied for the team lead in goals (4) and stood second in points (8).

Three of her four goals were against Conference opponents. Taylor's two goals, including the game-winner, against La Salle earlier this year gave GW a 2-1 conference win.

Her work on defense led the Colonials to a 1.44 goals-against-average and three shutouts.

Philbin emerged as GW's offensive leader this season, standing first on the team in points (9) and tying for the team-lead in goals (4).

Philbin accounted for two of GW's five game-winning goals this season while recording a.190 shot percentage.

Rhode Island senior Melanie Kasparek was named the Conference's Most Outstanding Offensive Player while Saint Louis junior Courtney Hulcer was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

The A-10's regular season came to end on Sunday with Championship play set to begin Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the University of Dayton. The Colonials did not advance to post season play this year.
