Then in 2012, Sperl helped the Colonials achieve new heights, reaching the Atlantic 10 Championship title game for the first time in team history after recording a school-record 25 wins and smashing a number of other program marks.

Sperl, a native of Center Strafford, NH, comes to the Colonials after serving four years as an assistant coach for the Division II Western Washington University Vikings before a brief stop at Division I Jacksonville University. Sperl was the recruiting coordinator for WWU and worked with the Vikings' defense, which saw the squad improve its fielding-percentage and cut down errors committed.

In the four seasons Sperl spent a member of the Vikings' staff, he was also worked on increasing fundraising efforts for the Western Washington softball program, which helped fund upgrading team facilities, uniforms and equipment.

Sperl also worked in the Sports Information office while at Western Washington overseeing public relations efforts, media requests and promotion of all 14 WWU varsity sports. Prior to coming to Western, Sperl handled media relations responsibilities for NCAA Division I nationally ranked ice hockey program at Michigan State University.

Sperl graduated from the Miami (OH) University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in marketing.
