Former Mercer standout joins James DeFeo's staff

Maxine Rodriguez joined the GW coaching staff in August 2017.

In her first season with the Colonials, Rodriguez helped guide the program to a record 33 wins and a return to the Atlantic 10 Championship, overseeing a pitching staff that compiled a 3.69 ERA. On her watch, senior Sarah Costlow earned a pair of A-10 Pitcher of the Week awards, while freshman Sierra Lange claimed one weekly award and earned a spot on the A-10 All-Rookie Team.

Rodriguez came to Foggy Bottom from Mercer, where she made an impact on the mound and at the plate. The Lakewood, Calif., native posted a 3-8 record with a 5.33 ERA in 82 2/3 innings last spring and also ranked fourth among Bears with 21 runs batted in. As a junior, Rodriguez started every game, leading the team in ERA (3.80) and putouts (244). The pitcher/first baseman was named to the Academic All-Southern Conference team both years before graduating in May with a communications studies degree. At Mercer, Rodriguez laid the groundwork for a move into coaching. She served as a coordinator and instructor at the program's summer camp. She's also worked as a private pitching tutor.
