GW Softball Concludes SoCal Trip With Loss at Cal State Fullerton

The Colonials will take on LSU, Penn State and Northwestern at next weekend's Tiger Invitational.

FULLERTON, Calif. - The George Washington softball team wrapped up its Southern California trip with a 9-0 six-inning loss at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Freshman Megan Linn, sophomore Carlee Gray and senior Alexandra Del Prete accounted for the Colonials' three hits against the Titans, who knocked off defending national champion Oklahoma on Friday.

Fullerton (5-0) scored four runs in the bottom of the first, with the big blow a three-run home run by Eliza Crawford. The score remained 4-0 until the fourth, when the Titans scored twice to take a six-run lead, and they added one run in the fifth before Crawford belted her second homer of the day, this time a two-run shot, to walk off with the 9-0 win.

Senior Courtney Martin (0-4) was charged with six runs on five hits and six walks in 3.1 innings to take the loss. Sophomore Meghan Rico allowed the final three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three in the final two innings. Christina Washington (2-0) earned the win for Fullerton after tossing five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four.

GW (0-5) returns to action next weekend when it heads to Baton Rouge, La., for the three-day Tiger Invitational at LSU, where they will face Northwestern, Penn State and the host Tigers Feb. 14-16.
