GW Softball Falls to #20/21 Minnesota, 3-0
Colonials Face UNC Greensboro on Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Playing its fourth game against a ranked opponent this season, the George Washington softball team fell to No. 20/21 Minnesota, 3-0, on Friday afternoon on the first day of the UNCG Spartan Classic.
Minnesota (9-1) scored twice in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI groundout and a solo home run by Sara Groenewegen.
GW starting pitcher senior Courtney Martin settled down from there, however, allowing just one run and four hits the rest of the way.
The Golden Gophers scored their final run in the fourth on a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield by Kayla Wenner.
Junior Victoria Valos broke up Minnesota pitcher's Sara Moulton's perfect game with a double with two outs in the seventh inning. Freshman Mary Wiley followed with a walk before Moulton retired the final batter of the game.
Martin (0-8) took the loss despite the strong performance. She allowed three runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts in the six-inning complete game. Moulton (6-1) earned the win after tossing seven scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out 11.
The Colonials (0-11) return to action on Saturday when they face host UNC Greensboro at 2:30 p.m.
