NEWPORT NEWS, VA - GW's softball team had a tough double-header loss Saturday in Newport News with a 12-0 defeat at the hands of Notre Dame followed by a 6-0 setback against Virginia.

In the opener, Notre Dame scored in every inning, including a five-run rally in the third on a 12 hit effort.

GW's Lauren Wilson had the team's only hit in the loss. She singled up the middle with one out in the third, but was erased in an inning ending double play.

Notre Dame's Brittany O'Donnell and Jackie Bowe combined on the one-hitter in a game shortened to 4-and-a-half innings by the mercy rule.

Kara Clauss was the losing pitcher. She gave up nine hits in two-and-a-third innings and allowed nine runs, seven earned.

In the second game of the twinbill, Virginia scored a run in the second, two more in the fifth and three in the top of the seventh. All on eight hits.

Lauren Wilson had one of four hits for the Colonials. Jordyn O'Donnell, Kristi Saporito and Julie Orlandi had the other hits for GW.

Heidi Penna was the losing pitcher. She gave up eight hits and six runs, five earned, in seven innings. She walked four and struckout four.

GW is 0-4 on the season and will play at UMBC on Tuesday, March 2nd at 1 pm.
