GW Softball Edged by Buffalo, 6-5

WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team lost a narrow 6-5 decision to Buffalo on Friday at Mount Vernon Field before rallying to tie the nightcap with Army at 4-4, but heavy rains suspended the comeback in the seventh inning.
The Colonial Classic will resume on Saturday with a revised schedule. All games will now take place at Mount Vernon Field.
GW (0-8) rallied back from a 4-1 deficit against Buffalo to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Chelsea Lenhart drove in the Colonials first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning with a RBI double to right center field which cut Buffalo's lead to 2-1.
The Bulls added single runs in the third and fifth to take a 4-1 lead before the Colonials stormed back to take the lead in the bottom half.
Samantha Dos Santos led off with a double to right field and scored when Autumn Taylor followed with a double of her own to the opposite field. With the help of a hit from Chelsea Lenhart, the Colonials were able to score two runs on heads-up base running during a fielder's choice sequence later to take a 5-4 lead.
After a scoreless sixth inning, Buffalo tacked on two runs in the seventh to clinch the 6-5 victory.
The second game featured two GW rallies but the contest was ultimately suspended at the start of the seventh inning with the score tied 4-4.
Army jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the second inning but the Colonials rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the third. Autumn Taylor provided a RBI double while Lenhart drove in a run with an infield single. GW tied the score at three with a double-steal later in the inning.
After a scoreless fifth, the Black Knights regained the lead in the sixth with a RBI double from Melanie Northup. Taylor came up huge for the Colonials again with a RBI single to tie the score at 4-4 before heavy rains suspended the game.
