COLUMBIA, S.C. - GW softball closed its stay at the Carolina Classic on Sunday with a 4-0 loss to Liberty. The Colonials sit at 9-7 after dropping four tight games against quality competition at Carolina Softball Field at Beckham Field.

In Sunday's finale, Sierra Lange matched counterpart Elizabeth Engler pitch-for-pitch until the fourth inning when Liberty broke through on Deidra See's RBI double. The Flames (13-5) added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to build their lead.

Lange allowed two runs in five innings, finishing the weekend with a 2.47 ERA over 17 innings in three starts, all against clubs that advanced to postseason play last spring. The freshman from Texas posted four strikeouts against one walk on Sunday.

GW managed just three hits against Engler, who struck out five and walked three in a complete-game effort. The Colonials had their best chance to score in the second inning after Elena Shelepak's leadoff double. The sophomore from New York moved to third on a ground out before the threat ended with back-to-back strikeouts.

Marta Fuentes and Morgan Rinehart both reached twice via a single and a walk.

ON DECK: GW hosts its Colonial Classic next weekend with six games over three days against Fairleigh Dickinson and Princeton at GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus. The Colonials start their home tournament on Friday, facing the Tigers at 12:15 p.m. before finishing the day against the Knights at approximately 2:30 p.m.
