AUBURN, Ala. – The George Washington softball team rallied to knot the score with Louisiana Tech at 2-2 in the top of the sixth, but the Lady Techsters added a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to defeat the Colonials, 4-2, in the War Eagle Classic at Auburn’s Jane B. Moore Field on Saturday evening.

La. Tech (11-13) jumped to an early lead with a two RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. Action remained scoreless until GW (4-11) rallied in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score.

With the bases loaded, freshman Victoria Valos hit a two RBI single to center field to plate senior Lauren Wilson and freshman Samantha Dos Santos.

La Tech immediately answered GW’s efforts with a two-run home run to center field. The Colonials could not respond in the seventh and ultimately fell to the Lady Techsters by the two-run margin.

Valos, junior Autumn Taylor and sophomore Chelsea Lenhart all went 1-for-3 at the plate, and Dos Santos and senior Amanda Zakeri both went 1-for-2. Senior Kara Clauss pitched five innings and struck out five and allowed five hits. Sophomore Courtney Martin, who came to the mound in the sixth, took the loss after allowing the final two runs.

The Colonials return to War Eagle Classic action on Sunday, March 11 when the Buff and Blue face Evansville at 9 a.m. Fans can follow live stats at the tournament central page.
