Softball falls to Wright State at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, SC - George Washington softball dropped to 6-5 on the season after falling to Wright State, 12-3, in five innings on the first day of the Winthrop/adidas Invitational on Terry Field.
Wright State (6-7) jumped on the board first and didn't look back, starting with a solo homerun in the first inning.
GW held WSU off the board in the second inning but was unable to keep them off the base paths in the third, giving up four runs on two hits and an error, to fall to 5-0. In the second and third innings, the Colonials drew lead off walks, but they were left stranded both times.
Wright State increased their lead in the fourth, posting seven runs on five hits, including a grand slam, to go up 12-0 on GW.
In the bottom of the fifth, GW got on the board, getting a lead off single from freshman Lacey Cook, followed by a walk from Jordyn O'Donnell. With two on and two outs, Katie Terrazas drew a walk to load the bases. Lauren Wilson singled in Cook for the first GW run of the inning. Autumn Taylor hit a two RBI single to score O'Donnell and Terrazas.
Three Colonials pitchers combined to work five innings, allow 12 runs (nine earned) on nine hits, including three homeruns, and walk six.
GW's Friday night game against Gardner-Webb was moved to Sunday at 1 p.m. The Colonials return to action on Saturday, March 12, at 11:00 am against Providence.
