TAMPA, FL - George Washington softball (6-11) fell to the Florida International Panthers (14-15) in day two of the USF Under Armour Showcase, 9-1, in five innings, Saturday afternoon.
In the top half of the second inning, GW pitcher Kara Clauss only faced five FIU batters before being replaced by Amanda Gabriel. Clauss threw a quick one-two-three first inning to be credited with two hits, five runs (all earned), two walks and one strike out, facing eight batters in one inning of work.

Clauss came back in the bottom of the second inning to lead off with a double and advanced to third on a throwing error by FIU's second baseman Desiree Fink. Lauren Wilson followed with a double of her own, batting in Clauss for the only GW run scored.
FIU scored two runs in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach of the Colonials.
Gabriel finished the game with six hits and four runs credited to her line. She also allowed two walks and stuck out three in four innings of work.
The Colonials play against host South Florida today at 6 p.m. in Tampa, FL, for the second game of day two of the USF Under Armour Showcase.
