Softball Outhit by FIU in Double Header in Miami

MIAMI, FL -- In the final day of the Golden Panther Invite, the GW softball team took on Florida International on Sunday, resulting in two five-inning losses, 10-1 in game one, and 9-1 in game two.
The Colonials were held to three hits in the first game, two that came in the second inning when GW scored their only run of the game. Jordyn O'Donnell hit a two-out double and scored when Jamie Yaniga reached base on an error from FIU's shortstop.
Elisa Van Kirk singled through the right side of the field in the forth for the Colonials other hit of the game.
FIU posted five runs in the first inning on five hits and two defensive errors, three more runs in the second on four hits, and two runs on three hits in the third inning to secure the 10-1 win in five innings.
In game two, the Colonials were also held to three hits. O'Donnell began the third inning with a single, was then replaced by pinch runner Amanda Zakeri, who was forced at second when Jillian Stanley hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield.
FIU (18-5) posted two runs on two hits and one error in the first inning, but had a big inning in the second when the Golden Panthers added five runs on four hits and one error. FIU was held to single runs in the third and the fifth inning.
O'Donnell scored GW's lone run in the top of the fifth with her first home run of the season.
The Colonials (3-11) return home to host La Salle on Wed., March 17, to open the Atlantic 10 conference schedule with a double header at 3 p.m.
