Softball Faulters at Fordham, 11-3

March 24, 2007

Box Score

BRONX, NY - Freshman Elisa Van Kirk (Southington, CT) hit a two run home run in the top of the fourth inning but it was not enough to carry the George Washington Colonials (10-11, 0-4 A-10) to a victory over the Fordham Rams (14-12, 2-0 A-10) on Saturday afternoon at Bahoshy Field.

The Rams, who went scoreless off freshman pitcher Amanda Gabriel (Fullerton, CA) in the first, scored 11 runs in the next four innings en route to a 11-3 victory in five innings.

Megan Hansen and Allison Twarowski hit back-to-back home runs off Gabriel to get the Rams on the board before sophomore Carrie Higdon replaced her.

The Colonials got one back in the top of the third with an RBI single to centerfield by sophomore Tori Sensi (Skillman, NJ) that scored senior Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA). Meyers singled earlier in the inning and advanced to third on a fielding error.

Fordham responded with a two run home run by Erin Fisher in their half of the inning to make it a 5-1 game.

Junior Hilary King (Canal Winchester, OH) led the GW half of the fourth with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball putting a runner in scoring position for Van Kirk. Van Kirk collected her first career hit with a two-run blast to left field.

Those runs would be the last for GW as the Rams scored two in their half of the fourth, and four more in the fifth to put them up 11-3.

Meyers and Sensi got two hits apiece, along with Van Kirk's home run to lead the Colonials offensively.

The Colonials will be back in action on Wednesday, March 28 when they travel to George Mason for a doubleheader at 2:00 pm. GW will be at home the following day for a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary's.
