Softball Has Tough Day Versus Temple
Lawrence Homers in Game 1
March 30, 2003
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The George Washington Softball team had another tough day in dropping both games of a doubleheader to Temple, 12-1 and 11-1, on Sunday, March 30 in Philadelphia, PA. The losses drop the Colonials record to 2-15 overall and 0-4 in conference.
The Colonials could only muster one hit in game one. Sophomore Jennifer Lawrence (Nassau, NY/Columbia) delivered the first homerun in GW softball history in the top of the second inning, but Temple pitcher Elizabeth Naughton baffled the rest of the Colonial lineup in earning her seventh win of the season. Temple jumped ahead in the bottom of the first with three runs. They put up nine more runs over the next three innings to beat GW, 12-1.
Temple continued their offensive onslaught in game two in tallying 10 hits on their way to an 11-1 victory. Lawrence picked up her second RBI of the day in the top of the fourth, but the Colonials could do no more damage. GW got hits from freshman Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs), senior Edna Coonan (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) and freshman Erica Heikel (Duluth, MN/Duluth Central), but were unable to put any more pressure on the Temple defense.
GW will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday, April 2 when they take on James Madison at the GW-Mount Vernon Softball Field at 2:00 p.m.
