Record Falls to 2-17
April 2, 2003
WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader versus James Madison, 5-0 and 4-0, on Wednesday, April 2, at the GW-Mount Vernon Softball field. The team played hard, but couldn't break through, and saw their record drop to 2-17 on the season.
Freshman Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) pitched well in the first game, but two errors that led to five runs in the fifth sealed her fate. The Colonials played even with James Madison through four innings, but the Dukes broke the game open with a five run fifth. Ashlee Schenk singled in a run and Kelly Berkemeier singled in two during the inning.
The Colonials picked up four hits during the first game from senior Edna Coonan (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan), sophomore Jen Lawrence (Nassau, NY/Columbia), sophomore Jaclyn Sanderson (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) and freshman Erica Heikel (Duluth, MN/Duluth Central), but were unable to push any runs across.
GW fell behind early in game two as James Madison scored one run in the first and three in the second. The Colonials only gave up five hits in the game, but could only manage three themselves. Briana Carrera singled in a run and Leah Evert doubled home two, to put the game out of reach.
The Colonials will try and break their losing streak when they take on St. Bonaventure this Friday, April 4, in Olean, NY.
